So my engine block date code reads May 25th 1966 The H is relatively insignificant. 6=1966 E = May 25 denotes the day of the month. A bright light source is essential and you will likely have to wipe the area clean as well to be able to see the engraving.

A small mirror taped to a long screw driver can be prove helpful in being able to see the date code engraved into the flat boss on the left of the block. I have to say this can be difficult to see when the engine is in the car.
This is located above the oil filter adapter on the left side of the block just below the exhaust manifold towards the front of the engine. It would be more prudent to check the date on the engine block when trying to determine if the engine is original to the car. See your DATA PLATE for your scheduled build date.
